Departmental Support
Faculty Peer Evaluation Training
Peer feedback, especially when used formatively as a support for new faculty, can be a great resource for departments. There are many ways to provide this kind of formative feedback on teaching, and much research on best practice in this area. When peers are also used as evaluators in high-stakes decisions, the need for training becomes critical. Please contact Catherine Ross to get more information about training to support teaching for faculty mentors or faculty evaluators.
Teaching Resources by Discipline
The Institute for Teaching & Learning, in conjunction with individual faculty, has compiled a number of discipline-specific resources to assist educators seeking to improve their teaching skills. Resources are grouped by medium within each discipline.
In addition, the ITL has included several sites at which opportunities for publishing articles of the 'Scholarship of Teaching & Learning' are to be found.
Mentoring Your TAs
Faculty members who work with graduate teaching assistants can find out more about how to effectively support their TAs by understanding the developmental stages that most TAs go through as well as by learning more about the resources available for providing training and growth opportunities for TAs at all stages. Contact Catherine Ross to arrange a workshop for your faculty.
Peer Mentoring Training for Senior TAs
Many departments are looking for ways to support their TAs in their teaching roles. One very effective support system is to train a group of senior TAs to become peer mentors for new TAs. This offers a twofold advantage in helping the new TAs and in providing a professional development opportunity for those TAs who are nearing completion of their degrees and thinking about preparing themselves for the job search. To explore how this program might work for your department, please contact Catherine Ross.
